Position: Lead Piping Engineer
Job Profile:
He will Co-ordinate the activities of a project piping engineering team to ensure time and budget objectives are achieved.
Main Tasks:
• Lead and guide a team of piping discipline engineers for a designated project to ensure the achievement of quality, completion and profit objectives.
• Define or approve design methods, specifications and performance or functional requirements for new projects both brown field and green field.
• Establish a list of discipline deliverables. Control, monitor and progress these deliverables to an agreed schedule.
• Supervise the preparation of feasibility studies, surveys, and reports, piping specifications, bills of quantities, materials lists, and cost estimates.
• Co-ordinate the work of the project team with other engineering disciplines through liaison with other Senior/Design Engineers.
• Monitor and evaluate the work of Engineers and drafting staff allocated to specific projects to ensure that their technical competence and performance meet requirements.
• Contribute directly to the resolution of technically difficult design problems.
• Liaise with procurement personnel to review the technical aspects of vendor proposals.
• Identify project scope deviations and provide design man hour estimate in consultation with the Project Manager.
• Prepare design man hour estimate and provide input to execution statements for bid proposals when required by the Chief Engineer.
• Quality Assurance – Responsible for working within the provisions and guidelines of the Quality Assurance system relevant to the Oil & Gas Business Unit.
• Safety – Responsible for personal safety, safe working practices for the Oil & Gas Business Unit. Understand and follow OH&S procedures.
Qualifications & Experience required:
Engineering Graduate in Mechanical Engineering
15 years minimum piping design experience gained within the offshore oil and gas industry including extensive exposure to onshore / offshore oil and gas installations.
Key Deliverables :
• Experience in FEED and/or Detailed Design and Engineering for a major Greenfield project(s) as a Lead Piping Engineer.
• Fully aware of the interface requirements between the various disciplines involved in a design project.
• Requires to be well versed in process systems and installation requirements of piping and mechanical equipment for offshore and onshore projects.
• Comprehensive knowledge of piping design codes and standards such as ASME B31.3, ASME B31.4, ASME B31.8, etc, particularly their interpretation.
• Extensive current design experience is required in piping engineering, pipe stress, pipe supports, topside equipment layouts detailed piping design, all gained in notable design contractors and/or oil and gas companies within the petrochemical industry particularly with respect to offshore oil and gas installations.
• Sufficient knowledge of piping materials to guide staff in the preparation of piping and valve specifications and subsequently ensure purchase to required standards.
• Conversant in the use of the COADE Caesar II (or Auto pipe) pipe stressing program, Word, Excel and PowerPoint MS Windows.
