| Our client, an international power generator manufacturer in the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul, is seeking a very talented Supervisor of Technical Services. In this role, you値l lead the Technical Services Department, and coordinate all areas for which the group is responsible. Your responsibilities will be multi-faceted: you値l work with clients to recommend and spec out the proper products for their applications, provide resolution of product and application issues, and provide technical support to the customer service team. You値l assist with the launching of new products, write Product Service Bulletins, handle all aspects of warranty issues, report product quality issues to the design and manufacturing teams, and lead initiatives to improve the quality of their products. You値l drive improvement, action and cost reduction within your department, and will turn data into actionable information. You値l use CPMS to ensure clear expectations, and have a working knowledge of Six Sigma and the 7-step process. You値l work in teams to analyze workflow and apply continuous improvement techniques.
In addition, you must have strong people and customer service skills, because you値l be asked to conduct service and product training schools, visit client sites for determining the cause of problems and for problem-resolution, and assist the sales and marketing departments at various product shows and presentations. You値l use your strong problem-solving skills and sound judgment to analyze issues and develop solutions. Your interpersonal skills will be also be used for negotiating/mediating service disputes, and managing corrective actions. Must have effective oral and written communication skills.
Requirements for this position include a B.S. in a technical field such as Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, and a Masters of Science in Electrical Engineering is preferred. You must have a minimum of two years experience in service, test, or repair of rotating electrical machines or generator set, and a demonstrated understanding of generator set applications and the interaction of the alternator, controls and engine in meeting performance requirements. A strong understanding of electrical machine design concepts and factors that affect performance is preferred, as well as a broad knowledge of various engineering disciplines (i.e. mechanical, electrical, materials, thermodynamics, etc.) and their applicability to alternators. You must be able to evaluate the specifications for sizing alternators based on calculation of loads (i.e. lighting, motors, etc.), and specific site conditions. PC knowledge and proficiency is required, along with working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Lotus Notes, Oracle, etc.; must be able to learn client痴 internal languages.
This highly-visible position requires a willingness to be on call outside of regular office hours for urgent customer calls, and a willingness to travel up to 25% including international destinations such as North, South and Central America, China, UK, Mexico and Latin America; an ability to work with people of diverse cultural backgrounds is therefore required. In some cases you may receive only short notice for a necessary trip.
