POSITION SUMMARY
The successful candidate will join a team of professionals responsible for maintaining and supporting the Provisioning Production environment. This position will manage a homogeneous environment comprised of systems running Linux.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The responsibilities will include creating tools for automating tasks and reporting, software and firmware patch management, deployment of core infrastructure, performing software implementations and upgrades, resolving and documenting service incidents, capacity management validation, creating implementation plans, testing and certifying new technologies, assisting with carrier partner launches and working within the defined change management processes to plan and schedule changes.
The successful candidate will also be responsible for the population of the Problem Management knowledge base, and the conversion of known issues into planned changes. Responsibilities are subject to change as the role and environment evolves.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
• 5 + years experience in an IT Administration or Network Operations setting
• Experience with BEA WebLogic and XML
• Strong scripting/programming experience (Perl, Shell, PHP, Jscript, python, Awk)
• Demonstrated experience automating daily system administration tasks
• Hands-on experience with Oracle databases
• Demonstrated experience with Unix/Linux administration
• Able to operate in a 7x24 operational environment in an on-call rotation
• Post secondary education in Computer Systems or a related discipline or equivalent experience
• Demonstrated experience as a proponent of 'best practices' and a leader in continuous improvement activities
• Ability and motivation to learn new technologies quickly and with minimal support and guidance
• Capable of reacting quickly to problems and stressful situations with a level head and following established procedures to implement solutions
• Strong written and verbal skills
ADDITIONAL ASSETS
• Experience with enterprise class monitoring tools
• Previous programming experience (Java, Ruby, C, C++ programming language)
• Experience with data reporting
• Project Management skills
• Experience with networking technologies such as DHCP, DNS, etc
• Understanding of the ITIL framework
• Previous experience mentoring others
• Experience using Remedy
